Going Makeup Free

In an attempt to help rejuvenate my skin, I made the decision to go makeup free for a week. Well, truthfully, not 100% makeup free--I did use the The Body Shop's Lip & Cheek Velvet Stick on my lips for a tiny bit of colour. My main focus this week was to ensure that I kept my skin cleansed, hydrated, and protected from the sun in hopes of improving its appearance. I used a lot of products I had on hand but also some new-to-me items that I was trying for the first time this week. In case you're interested in purchasing any of these products, I've linked to all the items in the post as well as in the photo gallery below. I've turned into a bit of a skin-care junkie! Here's how my week went!

Day 1

Morning:

I got a bit of a head start the night before by giving my face a good cleanse at bed time and then applying some Vitamin E Overnight Serum, after using the Body Shop's Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Face Mask. Today I woke up, used my camomile cleanser in the shower, applied an energizing vitamin c sheet mask for 15 minutes, rubbed on some La Roche-Posay moisturizing cream with SPF 15, gave my lips and cheeks a swipe of velvet stick and was on my way. I feel oddly at peace with my decision to go makeup free...so far that is...

Evening:

In the evening I cleansed my face with the Camomile Cleanser, applied the Vitamin E Overnight Serum and some Clinique All About Eyes, then gave my face a spritz of Avène Thermal Spring Water to calm and soothe my skin. I also applied some Advanced Therapy Sugar Lip Serum from Fresh before going to bed for good measure.

Day 2

Morning:

I'm always so amazed how you can go to bed with perfectly clean skin and then wake up with dirt and sweat from your hours spent asleep. Ew! This morning I went for the big guns to tackle that morning yuckiness--Lâncöme's Galatée Confort. It's a milky cream cleanser and ALWAYS does the job right, when it comes to removing dirt and sweat from your face. After getting my face clean, I applied the La Roche-Posay Moisturizing Cream and the Velvet Stick, then went about my day. Easy peasy!

Evening:

Tonight I used my Camomile Cleanser, and then applied Body Shop's Chinese Ginseng & Rice Clarifying and Polishing mask for 15 minutes. After washing the mask off, I applied my Vitamin E Overnight Serum, Sugar Lip Serum, and a spritz of Thermal Spring Water then called it a night. I'm definitely noticing a difference in the feel of my skin.  Not much of a difference in look, but the dry patches on my cheek area have all but disappeared. My face feels much smoother this evening.

Day 3

Morning:

Good morning! Thank goodness my career affords me to luxury of being able to work from home, is all I can say. This way I can do my skin care routine a bit later in the morning, after I get my work organized and I'm settled in for the day. So, this morning I, once again, used my Lâncome Galatée Confort to get off the grime from my sleep time. Then I applied a Life Brand Brightening Facial Sheet Cream Mask with camu camu berry & mulberry extracts. No link to this one because it's very new on the market and they don't have it online yet. This mask was a bit different because it's made with cream rather than a serum. It smells super fruity so it was a good one to start the day with. After I removed the mask I rubbed in the excess cream and then applied some Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30. I decided to go with the higher SPF from now on for better protection. I think I'll use my La Roche-Posay Moisturizing Cream under my makeup when I go back to wearing makeup. Lastly, as usual, I applied my Velvet Stick.

Evening:

Tonight I applied the usual Camomile Cleanser and then followed up with Body Shop's Oil-Balancing Clay Mask. After washing off the mask I applied my Vitamin E Overnight Serum and a spritz of the Thermal Spring Water. I will say this--my redness is definitely fading and I imagine the last time my skin felt this soft, I was in diapers!

Day 4

Morning:

Woke up this morning with 1 spot so that was a bit annoying but, as the day wore on, it basically disappeared so maybe my skin has enough power now to zap zits! This is a bit encouraging! My routine this morning involved Lâncome Galatée Confort, 4 drops of Body Shop's Oils Of Life: Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil, and then some of my Aveeno SPF 30 and Velvet Stick and my day was off to a good start.

Evening:

This evening I used the Camomile Cleanser, a Calming Face Mask by Life Brand, then applied the Vitamin E Overnight Serum and some Thermal Spring Water. I can see that I'm definitely getting into a routine and I'm actually enjoying this feeling of pampering myself a bit!

Day 5

Morning:

This morning I noticed I had some dryness on one of my cheeks so after my morning skin care routine of Lâncome Galatée Confort, I applied some Aveeno SPF 30 a few times throughout the day in hopes of nipping that dryness in the bud. Hopefully it does the trick. Of course I used my trusty Velvet Stick as well.

Evening:

Since one of my cheeks had a couple of small dry patches this morning, I decided to go with the Life Brand Hydrating Facial Sheet Mask tonight for a bit of extra moisture. I popped the mask on after using the Camomile Cleanser and then followed up with the Vitamin E Overnight Serum and Thermal Spring Water. Hopefully I'll notice an improvement in those dry areas when I wake up in the morning. The good news today is that I really notice a difference in the redness. I'd say it's down by around 50% this evening. I don't think it's one product in general that's doing this, I believe it really is a combination of skin care products and letting my skin breathe by not wearing any makeup during the day. So far so good!

Day 6

Morning:

Wanting to do a bit of extra moisturizing again this morning to ensure those small dry patches stay away, I used the usual Lâncome Galatée Confort followed up with a Life Brand Moisturizing Facial Sheet Cream Mask with plum extracts & ceramide (again no link to this one because it's a new line and it's not being advertised yet). After rubbing in the remaining cream from the mask, I then applied the Aveeno SPF 30.

Evening:

Tonight I used the Camomile Cleanser, followed by the Vitamin E Overnight Serum and Sugar Lip Serum, and for an added bonus, some Clinique All About Eyes Rich around my eye lids and under eye area. My skin feels extra soft tonight, that's for sure. One more day to go!

Day 7

Morning:

Final day! As usual, I applied Lâncome Galatée Confort to get off any dirt and grime from the night before. I then applied some Oils Of Life: Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil and Aveeno SPF 30.

Evening:

And that's all she wrote! Tonight I used the Camomile Cleanser, followed by a Life Brand Nourishing Mud Face Mask (omg it smelled so good), Vitamin E Overnight Serum, Lip Sugar, and All About Eyes for good measure.

Final Thoughts:

I'm glad I took the time to do this, this week. My skin feels super soft, the redness has gone down and, if nothing else, I had a great week of pampering myself. This was a great excuse to use up some of the products I`d been sitting on at home for a while and it was a great opportunity to try out some new-to-me products that I purchased. Some of the products I really enjoyed using this week were:
