Channelling My Inner Child: Making Slime

The other night I was having a bit of anxiety trying to get to sleep so I ended up roaming the interwebs on my phone to pass the time.  I strangely stumbled upon videos about people kneading slime (you know, the kids stuff we all used to play with) for anxiety relief. Smooshing it around and kneading it sounded like the same kind of satisfaction you'd get from popping bubble wrap (which I am all about).

I was intrigued and instantly knew that I needed me some slime.

Over the last couple of days I've been checking out recipes online and I've already tried one that was a colossal failure where I used the suggested Borax. A bit defeated I tried another recipe with other ingredients that worked even better than I had hoped! So, incase you too are interested in making some slime, here's an easy recipe that worked for me. Tip: have a friend on standby with an extra set of hands in case you need a bit of help.


  • 1 bottle of Elmers clear glue
  • Tide Free & Gentle laundry detergent
  • Food colouring
  • (optional) craft glitter and/or foam beads for slime


Okay so this isn't an exact science (ha!) but in a nutshell, here's what I did:

1. Pour 1 bottle of Elmer's Glue in a bowl and then stir in some food colouring

2.  Add in about a teaspoon of the Tide at a time and keep stirring it until it solidifies. Once it solidifies (happens pretty fast), take the slimy concoction out of of the bowl and start kneading it. Tip: if it's still too sticky, just keep adding a bit more of the Tide, knead, then Tide, then knead, etc. until you're happy with the stickiness level.

3. Next feel free to add in your optional items by creating a little well, pouring in your options, and then kneading the heck out of it. I chose to add in some iridescent glitter because who doesn't like iridescent glitter? I was about to go full mermaid up in this slime!

And that's it!

Just remember this stuff can dry out so be sure to store it away in a container.
